IT'S MUCH MORE SERIOUS THAN YOU THINK!
It means if it's raining or dew conditions, and your Electric Fence is not alarming, your fence is altogether wrong and won't alarm if cut or tampered with! This is the case even if there is power on it...
It's creating lots of resistance between live & earth, thereby creating a short circuit between your live & earth, lowering your voltage, making your Energizer work much harder than it should be, thereby reducing the life span on the Energiser. (for example, if there Energizer was going to last another 7 years it may only last 4 now, or if it would have run 3 more years, you may only get another year from it).
Water is a great conductor of electricity, which causes false alarms in rain or dew conditions.
Arcing weakens the wire, no matter what kind it is, causing weak points and breakages, in turn causing open circuits and alarm situations.
In fact, we can't even fault find for short circuits with a meter, because the plants and growth are a short circuit. In many cases, just cutting and clearing plant growth and trees could stop your electric fence alarming!
It means you need a FULLY CERTIFIED INSTALLER to install, repair, fault find, upgrade or add to your Electric Fence. Including to sign off your Electric Fence by Law when selling your house or property.

It has to comply with certain industry standards, as well as work and alarm properly.
The main difference between a non compliant electric fence (or often the case, simply an older fence), is that you need & require COC spec Lightning Diverters, 3 earth spikes of correct length before the HT cables get to the electric fence, and every 30m thereafter, and warning signs / boards every 10m.
You also need a barrier fence erected if your wires are open to public access in certain cases.
There are other items but those are the most important ones.

There may well be COC (Certificate of Compliance) issues regarding height or you may need barrier fences to be able to comply to COC specifications & standards.
This is why we insist the owner or manager or designated person in charge be there on the site or property when we come for the acessment so that we can show and explain what must be done in detail and answer any questions as well as look at various options that could be available.

It's very important to think ahead and make sure that if you start small or with only part of the property fenced, that you take a big enough Energizer that will cope with the whole fence later on once you have added and installed the whole fence.

You need a correct & proper 2-pole in line Gate Contact so that it will alarm as it should if cut or tampered with! IT'S EXTREMELY IMPORTANT!!!
So many Electric Fences are well installed yet the sliding gates are not right - - - and won't alarm when cut or tampered with, which renders the whole fence useless... and a total waste of money!!!
